• Lois, it’s been interesting how things have shifted in the past month. I’ve also seen how there is time for love and grace…but it does require showing up and being present. It’s a remarkable experience.

  1. My heart goes out to you and your family, and your words lead me to consider, worry, wonder… and pray. We’ve been lucky in my large extended family, the luck being relative. I fear the luck shall soon run out as reality takes precedence. It’s unavoidable. I shall cherish your advice to say what needs to be said and “experience, gather, question, answer, love, laugh, cry, hold tight, let go.”

A touching, memorable post, Kim. ♥

    • Thanks Lisa. Actually, we all still feel lucky. My daughters are the only people they know with all four grandparents, who are a little slower, but still very much engaged. Steve and I are the only people we know with all four parents alive. The aunts and uncles…they’ve left us with some incredible memories, and of course, the awesome gift of cousins.

  2. Kim – your words resonated with me! I am also trying to cram as much into life as I can.
Got a major wake-up call when my healthy-eating, bike-riding husband had a major heart attack at age 58 and then I had 2 heart surgeries at age 60. 2 years later and we both survive but try extra hard to thrive too.
Even as I read the obituaries daily to make sure my name isn’t there!

  3. When I read this, I only thought of how lucky you are to have had your grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. for as long as you have. Both grandfathers were gone before I was born and grandmothers before I was in Junior High. I am 49 now and both of my parents have past as well as one brother. Please know that you are so very lucky, and, as hard as death is to deal with for any of us, it’s also a part of life.

    • Oh Bonnie, we do know how lucky we are, and we have always known it. They’re all engaged and pretty healthy (though a tad slower)…it’s good, and even this experience with our aunt is good. I am honored to be part of this journey. Thanks for your thoughts.
