She decided to travel light this time.
Tossed aside her books,
and the umbrella that never really protected her.
She kept the silver compass,
She began stacking rocks—
two, three, six, ten, and more.
By sunset she was surrounded by thirty stone towers,
ready to either protect
or topple her
with the next gust of wind.
This will always be a sad trombone note of a day.
Even the dog, Tommy Dorsey, moped in agreement.
Their shared strategy was
to sit with the memory, and
let the others
Bungee jumping in Australia wasn’t on the life list.
Of course she had a list,
but it included
knit a sweater,
And that is how she found herself,
waiting to leap.
He considered the possibilities before him.
Anticipation, discovery, adventure.
Laughter, love, satisfaction.
Yes, this was absolutely the right choice.
Opening the pickle jar,
he committed himself to marriage
and the building
of two magnificent sandwiches.
